Chromium: Essential Energy Nutrient

“Another energy-boosting mineral, chromium helps to regulate and stabilize blood glucose levels by giving glucose molecules a push into your cells. If you’ve ever had a craving for a sandwich with meat, cheese, and whole-grain bread, it may be your body informing you that chromium is needed because this mineral is found in all three of these food groups.” (p.63)

The History of Green Tea

“Tea is said to have been discovered by the Chinese Emperor Shen Nung in 2737 BC. Legend has it that some young leaves from a wild tea bush blew unnoticed into a pot of water that the Emperor was boiling. He covered the pot and put it aside, and when he returned later to pour the water, he noticed its pleasing aroma and pale color, and took a sip…and a new drink was born. The accidental discovery of the beverage was later detailed by a scholar named Lu Yu in his work, The Classic of Tea, a Chinese scroll that dates back to AD 350.” (p. 292)

Weight Loss Benefits of Chromium

This mineral assists the breakdown of carbohydrates and fats in the body.

Chromium picolinate has been promoted as an aid for weight reduction and as a builder of muscle mass. In a German study conducted in 1997, researchers examined the effects of chromium picolinate on obesity in non-diabetic individuals, all around forty-five years of age. One group of participants took 200 micrograms a day of chromium picolinate, while the other group took a placebo. After twenty-six weeks, those participants taking the mineral showed significant increases in lean body mass and decreases in weight, compared with the placebo group.” (p. 236)
