The History of Green Tea

“Tea is said to have been discovered by the Chinese Emperor Shen Nung in 2737 BC. Legend has it that some young leaves from a wild tea bush blew unnoticed into a pot of water that the Emperor was boiling. He covered the pot and put it aside, and when he returned later to pour the water, he noticed its pleasing aroma and pale color, and took a sip…and a new drink was born. The accidental discovery of the beverage was later detailed by a scholar named Lu Yu in his work, The Classic of Tea, a Chinese scroll that dates back to AD 350.” (p. 292)
