WHO Growth Charts for Children Under 2

Posted in Health News at 2:30 am by Administrator

CDC: Clinicians Should Use WHO Growth Charts for Children Under 2 Years

The CDC is recommending that clinicians use the World Health Organization’s 2006 standards — instead of the CDC’s own growth charts — to assess growth in children younger than 24 months, according to recommendations published in MMWR. Growth of children aged 2 to 19 years may still be evaluated with the CDC’s charts.

The switch is recommended because WHO growth charts establish growth of the breast-fed infant as the norm. With the WHO’s standards, abnormal growth should be characterized using the 2.3rd and 97.7th percentiles, instead of the 5th and 95th percentiles.

Why Old Dogs Are The Best Dogs

Posted in Human Development at 2:36 am by Administrator

The last word: Why old dogs are the best dogs

They can be eccentric, slow afoot, even grouchy. But dogs live out their final days, says The Washington Post’s Gene Weingarten, with a humility and grace we all could learn from.
